Article 1: British Cultural Imperialism through Daniel Defoe’s The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (1719) and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness (1902)

Abstract
The Reading of Daniel Defoe’s The Adventures of Robinson Crosoe and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness offers enough evidence of cultural dictates on characters of African origin in the recreated English world. Leaning on Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak’s and Homi K. Bhabha’s postcolonial perspective in line with colonial experience and impacts as well as its new forms, the study substantiates the power of technology in the spread of the English language and culture. The dictates of the British as an imperial power on hosts of different cultural origins in the context of the study, along with weaker technology, suggests that technology is a tool in full sway of subordination of Africans through the promotion of language and culture.

Abstract
This study explores the concept of identity against the African, British and the African-American contexts. It also examines the functions identity plays in time and space. The use of Systemic Functional Linguistics helps to show how language affects interpersonal relations and brings social change. The study has found that the constant changes in characters’ interpersonal relationships are the result of socio-cultural, political, geographical and ideological dynamics.

Abstract
This research investigates the postcolonial concept of cultural reconciliation in John Maxwell Coetzee’s Disgrace. It analyses Whites’ and Blacks’ races, traditions, ideological institutions and languages as postcolonial cultures through which Whites and Blacks reconcile themselves. Standing on postcolonial theory, the study reaches the point that John Maxwell Coetzee’s Disgrace is a narrative of postcolonial cultural reconciliation.Â

Article 4: Grammatical Issues in the Occurrence of Embedded Language Islands in Moba-French Code-Switching

Abstract
This study aims to analyse the French language islands occurring in Moba-French bilingual multiswitches and find out the motivations for the occurrence of Embedded Language (EL) islands in bilingual speech. The methodology is based on data collection using interviews and participant- observation. The findings reveal that although the EL islands are in the exclusive regiment of the EL structure because of internal grammatical dependency, their internal relationship is not sufficient to overcome the resistance of the Matrix Language (ML). The latter still exerts maximal control as it is always active in the production of EL islands by assigning its system morphemes in VPs, NPs and PPs. Dealing with the motivations, the study indicates that, apart from the pragmatic reasons, the EL islands occur in bilingual speech due to structural mismatch and also the proficiency attained in the EL.
