Professor of sociolinguistics, PhD in Linguistics from New York University, he is a former Dean of Faculty of Arts and Languages at the Université de Lomé, Togo. Expert of the African Madagascar Council for Higher Education (CAMES) from 2015-2021. His research area of interest centers on on bilingualism, code-switching, and sociolinguistic dynamics in multilingual African contexts. To date, his work has significantly contributed to understanding how language contact affects linguistic structures and social interactions. In 2013, Essizewa published Lexical Insertions in Kabiye-Ewe Codeswitching in Lomé. He is the author of many publications. One of his notable publications is Sociolinguistics of Bilingualism in Togo: A Case Study of Kabiye-Ewe Code-switching, which examines how speakers navigate between Kabiye and Ewe in everyday communication. He is also the author of many scientific publications including Language Contact Phenomena in Togo: Case Study of Kabiye-Ewe Code-switching (2007) in Selected Proceedings of the 37th Annual Conference on African Linguistics, ed. Doris L. Payne and Jaime Pe–a, Somerville, MA: Cascadilla Proceedings Project. Prof. Essizewa has collaborated with international scholars and institutions and published. Prof. Essizewa’s work continues to shed light on the complexities of language use in multilingual societies, particularly in West Africa.
